The Mercenary Graduate
A 29 year-old law student from Tucson, Arizona, Jake has seen and done a lot! From webmaster to aircraft mechanic, college to law school, the adventure continues. "You never know where I'll be next," he jokes.
Born in 1979 to parents Larry and Pam, Jake has always been inquisitive. His favorite toys were building blocks and Lincoln Logs, perhaps as a nod to his architect father. He later graduated to Lego's which he still plays with to this day. "I think it's very important for tactile and creative development to build things, and Legos are a great tool for that," Jake quipped. "My kids can have all the Legos they want."
As a teenager, Jake became involved in Amateur Radio, and by age 18, he earned the highest class of license the service offered. He later obtained a commercial radio operator license and participated in emergency communication drills for a time. "I'm hoping to renew my involvement after law school," he offered. "It's a demanding activity on your time, but well worth the practice for real emergencies like earthquakes and floods. You'd be surprised at how essential radio communication is during a disaster."
In college, Jake studied English composition and literature with a minor in pre-law at the University of Arizona and Graduated in 2004 with honors. His favorite poets are John Keats and John Milton. "I like Milton for his spiritual perspective," Jake explained. "I have a similarly strong faith in God."
Jake also earned an aircraft mechanic license while in college, because he wanted to learn how aircraft were built. He later used that experience as an astronomy technician in Tucson, where he helped build some of the world's largest astronomic telescopes. This furthered his stargazing hobby and helped him design and build several telescopes for personal use.
He resides in Virginia while attending law school, but hopes to move westward and start a family after graduating. He is the oldest of two children, and his parents live in California. Go Back... |
